I took a fantastic drive the other day across the top of Connecticut, from Simsbury over to Kingston, N.Y., through old tobacco fields and cow pastures and apple orchards and into the Hudson Valley under a bluebird sky. Slow-roasted salmon with salsa verde? I settled on artichoke carbonara (above), with bucatini and a garnish of raw egg yolk, to almost literally gild the lily. I drove over the bridge from Rhinecliff in afternoon sunlight and could almost see the dish glimmering below me on the river. I like it on any Sunday, but if you’re in need of a fantastic Mother’s Day meal, it’d be extra nice this evening.

Stewart said that the tech giant prohibited from discussing artificial intelligence or interviewing Federal Trade Commission chair Lina Khan. Stewart and Khan discussed Big Tech monopolies, after the US Justice Department and more than a dozen states sued Apple last week in a blockbuster antitrust lawsuit that accused Apple of illegally monopolizing the smartphone market. Rarely has an actress been so unapologetically, gloriously undressed. That’s a lot of subtext under very little — clothing, that is. CNN —Detroit Pistons forward Isaiah Stewart has been suspended three games without pay after an altercation with a Phoenix Suns player prior to a game between the two teams, the NBA announced. The 22-year-old was arrested for assault after punching Suns forward Drew Eubanks before the two teams played on February 14 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona. “The attack on Drew Eubanks was unprovoked, and acts of violence such as this are unacceptable,” a Suns spokesperson previously told CNN. Stewart is in his fourth season with the Pistons, averaging 11 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in 35 games played this season. Catching lightning again will be difficult — particularly at a time when late-night television is greatly diminished as a cultural force and others, some from Stewart's family tree, are now competitors. CNN —Jon Stewart is heading back to “The Daily Show.”The comedian, who during his 16-year run as host of the Comedy Central program established it as an entertainment and cultural force, will return to host the show each week on Mondays starting February 12, Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios announced Wednesday. After exiting “The Daily Show” in 2015, Stewart signed a deal with Apple to host a show for the technology company’s nascent streaming service. Convincing Stewart to return to “The Daily Show” is a major coup for Comedy Central. While Trevor Noah received critical acclaim for hosting program after Stewart exited, it never quite had the same cultural impact it did under Stewart’s stewardship. And after Trump won that election, many — including myself — believed that if only Stewart had not abdicated his late-night show in August 2015, Trump might well have been defeated. On a serious note, I don’t actually believe my 2016 article had anything to do with Stewart returning. And if history is any guide, Stewart will get under Trump’s pathetically thin skin, surely causing him to lash out on social media. Just one example came shortly before Trump announced his 2016 run, when Stewart discussed the other GOP presidential candidates. For a comedian, having a person like Trump respond angrily on social media to your jokes is better than a standing ovation.

When does a style become a classic? I have read all the discussions about whether skinny jeans are still in, but if a particular style is a classic, isn’t it always in? It’s pretty much impossible to pinpoint a moment when a piece of work becomes a classic because the label is one that gets added in hindsight. (Except, perhaps, for the word “pulviscular,” which as far as I am concerned is an instant classic.) One of the reasons a classic is a classic is that it can morph to reflect contemporary styles while never losing its core identity.
